From Cloth to a T-shirt

Buying a t-shirt is simple enough, well apart from the time, money & energy you invest in choosing the right fabric, fit & colour. But, the process behind the final product is way more complicated. T-shirts are the go-to garment for almost everyone. It’s because of the versatility in patterns, colours & ease of maintenance. Above all, t-shirts are the most comfortable piece of clothing. Hence, the high demand. Pattern making is all about giving a flat piece of cloth design & fit.

Pattern Making/ Sewing pattern

It can be done in the following ways: Draping, Drafting & Flat Paper Pattern Making. Flat Paper technique is used extensively in ready-to-wear garment industry. It’s fast, hence best suited for bulk production. It involves fabricating a basic fitted pattern or a ‘Sloper Pattern’ where parts of the garments i.e. sleeves, armholes, shoulder, neck, length, chest &  back are traced on the paper acting as an outline to cut the fabric.

Sloper pattern s a powerful tool one can use to manipulate & create various designs with an existing pattern. Once your sloper pattern is created, sampling is the next step. Fabric is cut & sewn into a t-shirt for fit testing. Once satisfied with the sample, the fabric is put into production. And then to earn money, you SELL them.
